Special Projects & Upgrades

Our extensive engineering and design skills combined with our years of experience in the manufacture of bioreactors and related equpment make us the ideal partner to undertake Special Projects.

Working closely with our customers to find practical solutions, these are a few examples of the projects we have undertaken.

Multiple Fermenter System

The aim was to allow the maximum number of fermenters in the minimum space. We designed a two-tier rack, using one side for the fermenter vessels and the rear for pumps, bottles etc., with the electronical control mounted to the end. This allowed 24 x 5 litre fermenters to operate in less than 4m2 (42 sq.ft.) of floor space whilst still providing excellent access - in total 68 x 5 litre vessels occupy a laboratory of just 25m2.

Special projects and upgrades

Peek/Glass Vessel

For use where the experimental process can cause corrosion, or where metals in the vessel can have an effect on results, we have designed and produced several fermenter vessels which have no stainless steel parts in contact with the media. All such parts are made either from glass or PEEKā„¢ (Polyetherether Ketone).

1000 Litre Bioreactor for Bioremediation Work

We produced a 1000 litre bioreactor for bioremediation work where sterilisation is generally not necessary, using a glass fibre tank with a polypropylene lining. The vessel was still fitted with standard fermentation controls, stirrer system with measurement and control of temperature, pH and oxygen. The use of glass fibre for the tank enabled us to reduce the cost considerably..

Unusual Shape Bioreactor Vessels

We have produced many odd-sized and shaped bioreactor vessels. Wherever possible we use our standard parts with specialised glassware, but any size is available.

Upgrades

In addition, with the combination of Electrolab's expertise and existing equipment range, it is possible to get more from your budget by Upgrading your existing fermenters.

Using the FerMac 360 controller or our FerMac 200 series modules, old New Brunswick, LH or Aplikon units can be upgraded to give an immediate improvement in the quality and sophisticated of control at the same time as making them safer to use and meeting current CE requirements.

We can also service and Upgrade existing vessels to give you a virtually new fermenter at a fraction of the cost to buy new.
